Mujtaba (Mij) Rahman leads and oversees the firm's analysis and advisory work on Europe, helping clients navigate the macro-politics of Brussels and its interaction with EU member states across a wide range of policy areas.
For now, this work includes analyzing the transatlantic relationship across trade and security, the impact of turbulent US-EU relations on the EU's approach to China, the trajectory of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and the EU's progress on Mario Draghi's competitiveness recommendations. Mujtaba also analyzes the Franco-German dynamic under Germany's new leader, Friedrich Merz, assesses the EU's management of the challenge posed by nationalist populist parties, and explores the EU's relations with third countries such as the UK, Turkey, and Ukraine. He also analyzes the inter-institutional politics of Brussels and leads country analysis on the UK and France.
Prior to joining Eurasia Group, Mujtaba worked at the European Commission's Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs and at the UK Treasury. He is a senior visiting fellow at the London School of Economics, where he teaches political risk to graduate students. He is regularly quoted by the Financial Times, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Economist, and Bloomberg. He has written for the Financial Times, Guardian, Politico, and New Statesman.
Mujtaba, who holds master's degrees from Columbia University and the London School of Economics and Political Science, speaks French and Urdu.
