Marc Gustafson is the director of analysis at Eurasia Group, where he helps lead the firm's analytic and operational initiatives. He brings over two decades of national security and intelligence experience to the role.
Prior to joining Eurasia Group, Marc spent 15 years at the Central Intelligence Agency as an analyst and department-level manager covering Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. He also served in multiple high-level roles at the White House under presidents Barack Obama, Donald Trump, and Joe Biden, including as an intelligence adviser to Biden, the head of the White House Situation Room, the chief of intelligence for the National Security Council (NSC), and the NSC director and acting senior director for Africa. Marc frequently traveled with Biden as the designated representative for the NSC.
Marc holds an undergraduate degree from New York University and graduate degrees from Oxford University, where he was a Marshall Scholar. Outside of work, Marc enjoys playing basketball with his teenage sons and helping maintain the hiking and biking trails near his home along the Potomac River in Washington, DC.
