Previously, he worked as a political risk analyst for Control Risks and Horizon Client Access, analyzing Mexico's convoluted security situation and the complexities of its energy sector. He has published articles in Mexican media such as El Universal, Milenio, and Nexos.

Matias has a bachelor's degree in international relations from El Colegio de Mexico, the country's top university in the field. An avid NBA fan, Matias is heavily invested in seeing the Los Angeles Lakers win their 18th ring in a final against the Celtics.
