Michael Dempsey is a non-resident senior scholar at Georgetown University's Security Studies Program and recently served from 2019 to this year as vice president of strategy and development for space, cyber, and intelligence at Northrop Grumman. Prior to that, he was both acting and deputy director of national intelligence from 2014 to 2017, as well as US President Barack Obama's primary intelligence briefer. In these roles, he regularly represented the intelligence community at national security, principal, and deputy committee meetings, as well as in Congressional testimony, and was charged with leading the effort to integrate the community's 18 agencies and departments.
Mike also served as an artillery officer in the Army's 101st Airborne Division, and during his career received the Presidential Rank Award, the National Intelligence Distinguished Service Award, the CIA's Distinguished Career Intelligence Medal, and the IC's Seal Medallion. His analysis on national security and foreign policy has been covered in numerous publications, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, Foreign Affairs, Wired Magazine, and The Harvard Business Review.
