Maria Luisa is Eurasia Group's Latin America Director leading the coverage of Chile, Colombia, and Peru. She has two decades of experience in analyzing the politics of the region. She has helped clients understand Chile's 2019 protests and two failed efforts to reform its constitution, Colombia's election of its first leftist president, and Peru's turbulent politics that have brought down several presidents. Among other themes, she focuses on widespread public dissatisfaction in Latin America, the impact of discontent on elections, and the outlook for economic reforms.
  
Maria Luisa previously worked as a political risk analyst for Oxford Analytica, focusing on the Andean region, Central America, and Mexico. Prior to that, she worked as a correspondent for Reuters, covering everything from politics, macroeconomics, and equities to general news from Peru and other countries in the region. 

Based in our London office, Maria Luisa holds master's degrees in comparative politics from the London School of Economics and Political Science and in Latin American studies from Stanford University. She earned her bachelor's degree in communications from the Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru.
