The Straits Times and GZERO Media announce a partnership to bring unique coverage of Asia and the world to their respective audiences

20 March 2019

Singapore / New York, 20 March 2019 – The Straits Times, Singapore's leading multimedia title, and GZERO Media, a subsidiary of Eurasia Group, a leading political-risk analysis firm founded by American foreign policy expert Ian Bremmer, are proud to announce a partnership to increase coverage of United States and Asian affairs in each other's countries.

This partnership will bring wide-ranging coverage of Asia from The Straits Times (ST) to GZERO's audience, and unique international perspectives from GZERO to The Straits Times' readers.

Subscribers to the ST Asian Insider newsletter and GZERO's Signal newsletter will see new coverage and features as part of this relationship.

Asian Insider is dispatched on Mondays-Fridays at 6pm SGT to give readers a quick update on happenings in the region, curated by ST's Foreign Editor Jeremy Au Yong and Associate Editor Ravi Velloor.

Signal is a must-read newsletter with engaging, accessible and smart coverage of global politics and world events. The Signal editorial team consists of Willis Sparks, Alex Kliment, Kevin Allison, Gabe Lipton and Adam Pourahmadi.

More shared articles and videos will be available on straitstimes.com and GZEROMedia.com.

The Straits Times, which turns 174 years in July, is the most-read newspaper in Singapore and is followed widely in the region for its comprehensive coverage of local, regional and world news, provided by its network of close to 30 correspondents in major cities worldwide, mostly in Asia.

ST is the English-language flagship daily of Singapore Press Holdings (SPH). It is also a co-founder of Asia's leading news media alliance, the Asia News Network, which counts 23 regional news titles as members.

GZERO, created in 2017, offers intelligent and engaging multimedia coverage of global affairs from a distinctly non-ideological perspective. Its programming includes long- and short-form videos, a newsletter, a podcast and an online political satire puppet show.

Founder Ian Bremmer hosts the weekly television show GZERO World, broadcast nationwide on US public television and online, where he explains the key global stories of the moment and holds in-depth conversations with the newsmakers and thought leaders shaping the world. Bremmer is also the President and Founder of Eurasia Group, one of the world's leading political-risk consultancies dedicated to helping investors and business decision-makers anticipate and respond to political instability and opportunities in markets abroad and at home.

Editor-in-chief of SPH's English/Malay/Tamil Media group and The Straits Times editor Warren Fernandez and Ian Bremmer will host a lively discussion about the partnership – and the politics between the US and Asia – in a Facebook Live discussion from New York City on 21 March at 1pm EDT. Watch and ask questions in the comments at https://www.facebook.com/ianbremmer/ or at https://www.facebook.com/TheStraitsTimes/

With this partnership, GZERO Media readers can gain access to ST Asia Report, a monthly curation of the best analyses and features from its correspondents in Asia and the US, and subscribe for access to the global edition of straitstimes.com, for round-the-clock updates on breaking news and analyses and commentaries.

ST readers can look forward to viewing select videos of GZERO World with Ian Bremmer on straitstimes.com (global edition) and the world section of the Singapore edition.

Bremmer said: “It's hard to overstate the worldwide impact of geopolitical and economic developments in the Asia-Pacific. This partnership will supplement GZERO's global coverage with key insights from the region and will bring new international viewpoints to ST readers.”

Fernandez said: "As Asia develops, there is a growing desire to make sense of developments happening in our part of the world. ST's coverage and perspective on developments in Asia is well regarded around the world. Already, about 30 per cent of our online traffic comes from outside Singapore, with the US being a major part of this audience. So we are glad to partner with GZERO Media to help get our Asian Insider reports and analysis to a wider audience.”
