Shamila N. Chaudhary, Former National Security Council Director for Pakistan and Afghanistan, joins Eurasia Group

Eurasia Group is pleased to announce that Shamila N. Chaudhary will join the firm as an Analyst on July 25. Based in Washington, DC, Shamila will cover South Asia with a particular focus on Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh.

Shamila joins Eurasia Group following 12 years of US government service, most recently from the White House, where she served as Director for Pakistan and Afghanistan on the staff of the National Security Council and advised President Obama, National Security Advisors Jones and Donilon, and worked closely with, among others, the late Richard Holbrooke. Before the NSC, she served on the State Department's Policy Planning Staff, where she advised Secretary Clinton on Pakistan and Afghanistan; on the Department's Pakistan and Indonesia Desks, where she was responsible for economic affairs; and at the US Agency for International Development (USAID), where she worked on democracy and governance issues worldwide. 

Shamila was a 1999 David L. Boren National Security Education Program Fellow and studied Urdu in Lahore, Pakistan, as part of her fellowship. She earned an M.A. in International Affairs from the American University's School of International Service and a B.A. in English Literature and Women's Studies from the University of Toledo. She is a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations and a Senior Fellow at the New America Foundation.
