Risa Grais-Targow focuses on Venezuela, Central America, and the Caribbean, with a particular emphasis on macroeconomic policy and politics. Her sectoral expertise includes the oil, gas, and mining sectors.
Prior to joining Eurasia Group, Risa was an associate on Alcoa Inc.'s global government affairs team responsible for the Western Hemisphere and trade policy, and she covered Latin American economies for financial clients at the Institute of International Finance, based in Washington, DC. She previously focused on Latin America at the US Department of the Treasury's Office of the Western Hemisphere and at the Albright Stonebridge Group, a global strategy firm, and covered macroeconomics and financial markets as a reporter for Dow Jones Newswires in Santiago, Chile. Risa has contributed to a variety of publications, including the Financial Times, Foreign Policy, and the Wall Street Journal and been a commentator on NPR, BBC Radio, CNBC, Fox Business, and Bloomberg, among others.
Risa holds an MA in International Economics and Latin American Studies from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and a BA in Political Science and Latin American Studies from Bard College. She is fluent in Spanish.
