Clare Allenson focuses on East and Southern Africa, with particular emphasis on the fiscal and monetary policy environments in Kenya, Tanzania, and Zambia. Her sectoral expertise includes energy, mining, and financial services. Clare frequently travels to the region, meeting with policymakers and conducting site visits to critical infrastructure development sites in Mtwara, Tanzania, and Lamu, Kenya, among others.

She has looked at African markets through the lens of management consulting within PwC's forensic services practice and as an analyst for Emerging Capital Partners, an Africa-focused private equity company. In these roles, she analyzed deal opportunities and risks in the natural resources, financial services, and ICT sectors, and helped clients conduct market risk assessments and stakeholder mapping across Africa. She is likewise an expert commentator on East African politics. Clare, who is proficient in French, holds a master's degree in international economics and African studies from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, as well as a bachelor's degree in international relations from American University. Her coffee addiction is well suited for East Africa coverage.
