Geoff Porter
Director, Middle East & Africa
Geoff Porter is a director in Eurasia Group's Middle East & Africa practice, covering Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, and Mauritania. His primary analytical areas include the oil and gas sector and terrorism. In addition, Geoff covers and coordinates the practice's research on Middle East issues including the eastern Mediterranean and the Arabian peninsula. Geoff is also involved in coordinating corporate client products with global breadth. He has a BA in Islamic Studies, an MA in Arabic, and a PhD in Middle Eastern Studies from New York University. He is fluent in modern standard Arabic, North African colloquial Arabic, and French.
Prior to joining Eurasia Group, Geoff was an assistant professor of Middle Eastern history at Trinity College in Hartford, CT. During the course of his academic career, he has lived and worked in the Middle East and North Africa.
