James Clinton Francis

James Clinton Francis joined Eurasia Group in 2010 as a researcher. He holds a bachelor's degree in African studies and political science from Columbia University. James has previously worked in the political and economic sections at the US Embassy in Dar es Salaam, as well as in the publications department at the Council on Foreign Relations. His research experience includes working at the University of Witswatersrand in Johannesburg, where he studied the emergence of self-militia units during South Africa's transition to non-racial democracy, and at Columbia University's Institute for Social and Economic Research and Policy, where he assisted in projects related to community development block grants and urban housing policy.

James is fluent in French and Spanish, proficient in Swahili, and has basic knowledge of Mandarin Chinese.
